Backyard Hen License Application

Personal information collection is necessary for the administration of County of Brant By-law 14-25 Backyard Hens By-law, authorized by the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25. Personal information collected is managed under the provisions of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M. 56, as amended, and will be used for the purpose of processing your application.

The license application takes place in four (4) parts:

  1. Application for License
  2. Approval and Payment
  3. Inspection of Backyard Hen Coop
  4. Issuance of Backyard Hen License

I, the applicant as listed above, of the property listed above in the County of Brant, do solemnly declare that:

I have reviewed the following documents:
 
I acknowledge that a County of Brant designate may attend and inspect the property as deemed necessary to assess and ensure compliance with the requirements of any applicable by-law, statute or regulations.
 
I have verified that there are no restrictive covenants on title prohibiting keeping hens on the property.
 
I understand that all hen owners must be registered with the Ontario Chicken Farmers Association.
 
I understand a hen license may be revoked when the applicant does not meet the requirements of the Backyard Hen By-law, the applicant provides false information, and the applicant fails to pay a fine imposed by a court for a contravention of the By-law.
 
I understand that I may receive information pertaining to infection prevention and control practice as well as bio-security alerts to the contact information I have provided.
 
I will provide proof of registration with the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) for all birds that will be kept on the property.
 

I am the applicant for the granting of a permit authorizing me to keep backyard hens pursuant to By-Law 14-25 within the County of Brant now and hereafter in force. I undertake to conform to the terms, conditions and regulations set out in By-Law 14-25 and understand that I must comply with all applicable regulations and requirements of:

  1. every bylaw of the County of Brant; and
  2. every Provincial and Federal Act and regulation made under such an Act.
Acknowledgement and Agreement
 
I understand that any permit issued pursuant to the said application is subject to revocation.
 

Please upload the Site Plan depicting the following:

  • Lot dimensions and proposed location of hen coop;
  • Dimensions of the hen coop and outdoor run;
  • Setbacks from lot lines and any other structure/building on the lot;
  • Setback from any dwelling located on any lot sharing a lot line with the lot subject to the application;
  • Setback from any waterway and private well
