Site Alteration Application 

The Site Alteration Bylaw regulates the movement of fill in the County, the alteration of land and replaces the previous Fill Bylaw (112-12).

To apply for a permit, please submit the form. Once the application form has been deemed complete by County staff, details on fee payment will be provided by email to the applicant.

In addition to submitting the application form, one of the following is to be provided for a complete application:

  • If applying for a Development application, a Site Drawing as per Schedule A. 
  • If applying for an Agricultural or General application, a site map/sketch with supporting information is required. Site map/sketch is to provide rough details on the scope of the work, location of work on the property, type of fill, locations of existing structures and natural features if applicable.

 If required documents cannot be included in the form, please send an email to sitealteration@brant.ca with the attached documents and specify the site name in the subject line.

Additional Information:
  • Subject to a full review of the application, a Site Drawing as per Schedule A may be required.
  • If the proposed Site Alteration requires any excavation or re-grading of existing ground, a minimum of a Stage 1 Archeological Assessment will be required.
  • Soil quality information will be required if import or export is necessary. 
  • A Security Deposit may be required to address any potential damage to the roads from trucks hauling material to and from the site.

Fee Information:
  • Agricultural Permit application for Agricultural Lands, greater than 1000 cubic meters of Site Alteration, is $1121.52
  • Development Permit application for Development Lands is $3923.69 
  • General Permit application (works not applicable to Agricultural or Development applications) between 100 - 1000 cubic meters of Site Alteration, is $287.65
  • General Permit application (works not applicable to Agricultural or Development applications) greater than 1000 cubic meters, is $2859.27
  • If Fill or Topsoil will be imported or exported outside of the County of Brant, an additional fee of $2.15 will apply for each cubic metre of imported or exported material.
  • If Site Alteration was commenced before an approved Permit, you are subject to penalties in accordance with the Fees and Charges By-Law.

By submitting this application, the applicant agrees to abide by By-law 87-24 and the terms and conditions outlined herein to regulations and the requirements for issuance of a Site Alteration Permit (Permit) in the County of Brant. We/I hereby grant the County of Brant permission to enter the subject lands to inspect the proposed work for which this Permit applies to.
